This past weekend I had the pleasure of spending the day with my ten year old nephew, my seven year old niece and my six year old daughter. My nephew was on his best behavior, but my daughter was another story. She started screaming about some injustice or other. Finally her dad told her that if she didn't behave we would leave her home and take one of her cousins with us to Disneyland next month. She immediately got quiet. Not another word was said about losing her trip to see Mickey Mouse and pals.
This evening my sister called me laughing. She said that my niece and nephew were hoping and praying that my daughter would be naughty and be left behind from Disneyland. They were arguing over who we would pick to take her place! I was chuckling because I had forgotten about that threat. My sister told me that I need to be careful about what threats I make because I got her kids hopes up! If I could handle all of them together for more than a few hours I would take them with us.
So, I must remember not to make threats that include taking something from my daughter and giving it to her cousins lest I plan on following through!
